Why Paper Flower?

Bougainvillea

The bougainvillea (also known as paper flowers) is a plant known for its resilience. It grows in difficult places, adapts to its surroundings, and transforms simple leaves into vibrant colour. Its strength is quiet but undeniable—rooted, persistent, and capable of flourishing in unexpected ways. This spirit of growth and transformation is woven into the heart of Paper Flower Psychology.

About Sara Borchiellini

My name is Sara, and I am a counsellor offering online therapy for teens and young adults across Canada. I hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP), and am in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

I currently provide virtual counselling services across Canada, with plans to offer in-person therapy sessions in Edmonton in the near future.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 15 years in education as both a teacher and Instructional Coach. This experience gives me a strong foundation in understanding how teens think, learn, and navigate challenges. It also allows me to provide specialized support for academic stress, school anxiety, peer relationships, family dynamics, and teen mental health.

My approach to online counselling for teens and young adults is warm, down-to-earth, and focused on building trust. I understand the pressures young people face—both in and out of school—and I work alongside them to develop practical tools for managing emotions, improving confidence, and navigating everyday challenges.

I provide therapy for teens and young adults experiencing anxiety, stress, overwhelm, and emotional challenges, including avoidance patterns and relational concerns. I also offer ADHD support for teens, with a focus on strengthening executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, and focus.

I have a particular interest in supporting gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) youth, helping them navigate the emotional, social, and academic complexities that can come with perfectionism, asynchronous development, and high expectations. I provide affirming, inclusive therapy for 2SLGBTQIA+ teens, creating a safe and respectful space where young people can explore their identity without judgment.

My work is person-centred and evidence-based, drawing primarily from:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

I tailor each session to the individual, meeting teens where they’re at and focusing on practical, real-life coping strategies that they can actually use day-to-day.

In addition to working with youth, I also support parents and caregivers, offering guidance and insight to help strengthen communication, connection, and understanding at home.

Outside of my work as a therapist, you’ll often find me on the sidelines of a soccer field cheering on my kids. I also speak Italian and some German—and for some reason, I genuinely enjoy deep cleaning my house.

If you’re looking for online therapy for teens in Canada, ADHD counselling, or support for youth mental health, I’m here to help. I look forward to supporting you or your teen in feeling more confident, understood, and equipped to move toward what matters most.
